Accused Of Sexual Exploitation, Amit Malviya Files Rs 10-Cr Defamation Case; Congress Wants BJP To Sack Him
New Delhi: Amit Malviya on Monday filed a defamation suit against a man who alleged that the BJP leader had indulged in sexual exploitation of women.
The BJP IT cell chief sued Santanu Sinha – who claimed to be an RSS activist — for Rs 10 crore, seeking the removal of “false and derogatory” post from the latter’s social media, reported India Today.
“The nature of allegations are extremely offensive in as much as they falsely allege sexual misconduct purportedly committed by my client. The same is fatally injurious to the dignity and reputation of my client who, by virtue of his professional profile, is a public figure,” stated the legal notice.
RSS officials claimed Santanu — known to be an associate of West Bengal BJP leader Rahul Sinha — has never been associated with the organisation in any official capacity.
Santanu accused Malviya of sexually harassing women while he was visiting in West Bengal.
Congress was quick to jump in, and sought immediate action against Malviya by the BJP.
“An RSS member, Santanu Sinha, related to BJP leader Rahul Sinha, has said that the BJP IT Cell head, Amit Malviya, has indulged in nefarious activities. He indulges in the sexual exploitation of women. Not just in 5-star hotels but in BJP offices in West Bengal,” Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said at a press conference.
“We demand one thing from the BJP — justice for women. Less than 24 hours after PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, grave allegations of sexual exploitation have emerged against a prominent BJP figure, the chief of its IT cell,” she said.
Demanding an unbiased investigation into the allegations, Shrinate said: “Today we seek the immediate removal of Amit Malviya from his position. It’s an extremely influential position.”
