Cuttack: The junior doctors’ association (JDA) of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), who are now on cease-work stir, has demanded immediate removal of institute director Ashwini Pujahari.
The association has given 48 hours to the state government to fulfil their demand, failing which it has threatened to intensify the stir.
Junior doctors of VIMSAR, MKCG and the SCB Medical College and Hospital heldd a meeting in this regard in Cuttack on Thursday. Those of SCB and MKCG will also participate in the agitation.
Notably, house surgeon, PG and undergraduates and all the medical students have been demanding removal of Pujahari.
“The inquiry committee report was to be submitted within 10 days. It is yet to be done. The government has appointed a person, who has been experimenting on people,” said VIMSAR students’ association vice-president Himanshu Mishra.
Pujahari had allegedly used table salt to treat a cancer patient, who later died. He also drew flak for his administration methods and conducting experimental surgeries on poor patients without their consent and approval of the ethics committee.
The JDA had also filed a police complaint against him.
“We have given 48-hour ultimatum to the state government. If the government is worried about common people, it should initiate strong action against him,” SCB students’ association president Pravat Kumar Rout said.
