Mumbai: Actor Akshay Kumar has donated Rs one crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for Odisha cyclone victims, media reports said on Tuesday.
The actor, whose recent release Kasari was a box office hit, has been championing various social issues through his movies. He had donated to the victims of the Kerala floods last year and had also come to the aid of the victims of Chennai floods.
Earlier, Akshay had vowed to donate Rs 5 crore through Bharat Ke Veer — a fund-raising initiative of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. He had also extended a helping hand to rain-ravaged Chennai in 2015 by donating Rs 1 crore for relief work.
On Monday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also said that he would donate his one year’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has also donated Rs 10 lakh from the Dalai Lama Trust to aid in the restoration and rehabilitation of the state.
Chief Ministers of various states have also declared their support to the victims of Cyclone Fani.
While Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has announced an aid of Rs. 5 crore, the governments of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh have declared Rs 10 crore assistance to Odisha, each.
Similarly, Rs 11 crore and Rs 15 crore has been contributed by the Chief Ministers of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, separately.
Sprinter Dutee Chand today donated Rs 50,000 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
