Mumbai: Sangeeta Sornalingam, South star and TVK chief Vijay’s wife, has filed for divorce, alleging infidelity by the actor.
After over 25 years of marriage, Sangeeta has moved the court seeking dissolution of their marriage under provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
Sangeeta and Vijay, who got married in August 1999 as per Hindu and Christian traditions, have two children — Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha.
According to an India Today report, the petition invokes specific grounds under Section 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Act, which allow a spouse to seek divorce on the basis of adultery and cruelty.
Sangeeta has alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with a female actor. She claimed that she became aware of the alleged relationship in 2021, and despite assurances from Vijay that it would end, the affair continued without any sign of remorse.
According to an ANI report, the petition was filed in the Chengalpattu family court, and the matter is pending before the District Court.
Vijay and Sangeeta haven’t, however, released any statement yet.
The report about trouble in Vijay’s married life comes amid uncertainty surrounding the release of Vijay’s final film, ‘Jana Nayagan’, which has been facing legal hurdles.
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions, the film was scheduled for release on January 9.
However, it is currently awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
