Ernakulam: Kerala Police on Monday arrested Malayalam actor-singer Sreenath Bhasi after a female anchor complained that he allegedly abused her verbally during a promotional programme of his recently released film ‘Chattambi’ in Kochi.
The 34-year-old Bhasi, who began his acting career in 2011, was taken in custody here after being summoned for questioning by police.
An audio clip went viral on social media in which he is purportedly heard abusing the woman after she asked some questions.
The anchor stated in her complaint that when she asked Bhasi to rate actors in the movie based on their “rowdiness and pranks”, he asked her not to ask such silly questions.
When she insisted, the actor stopped the interview and asked the crew to switch off the camera.
The anchor further said that once the camera was turned off, the actor abused her and crew verbally, which was recorded on phone.
However, after she filed a police complaint, Bhasi gave the explanation that he had been ‘trapped’ by the crew and got angry when they persisted with silly questions.
