Bhubaneswar: Odia Jatra actress Rani Priyadarshini on Tuesday met Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan to express her concern over ‘unjust’ action of STA against her.
During the meeting, Rani raised the seizure of her scooter by the State Transport Authority (STA) after a reel of her driving the two-wheeler without wearing helmet went viral on social media.
Rani admitted her mistake and said she had released her vehicle by paying a penalty of Rs 6,000. But she expressed her dissatisfaction over the manner the STA suddenly carried out a raid to seize the two-wheeler.
She said the STA or Transport department should have issued a notice or served an e-chalan as is the practice in case of violation of traffic rules of the state government. But the STA issued a statement in the media about seizure of her vehicle without following the norms, she alleged.
Stating that the STA’s action was unjustified and had brought disrepute to her, the actress sought the minister’s intervention in rectifying the methods of the Transport department towards violators of traffic norms.
It may be noted that the actress had shared the video on her social media handle which triggered widespread public criticism over road safety concerns two days back.
The video showing the actress riding a scooter without wearing helmet drew sharp reactions with several critics accusing her of setting a poor example by violating traffic rules.
