Bhopal: Popular TV actress Shweta Tiwari has courted controversy after making an objectionable remark on God while talking about her innerwear during a promotional event on the upcoming web series ‘Show Stopper’.
Shweta, who made a name for herself in Ekta Kapoor’s TV serial ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’, and other celebrities took part in an event to announce the fashion-based web series in Bhopal, where it will be shot.
“Mere bra ka size bhagwan le rahe hai (God is taking the size of my bra),” Shweta said while talking about the web show.
Show Stopper is a series featuring Sourabh Raaj Jain — who had played Lord Krishna in Mahabharat — in the role of a ‘bra fitter’, Hindustan Times reported. Shweta’s controversial comment was most likely in reference to Sourabh’s character.
Social media users pounced on her after the video of the event went viral, pulling up Shweta for “joking about God.”
The matter was taken up by Madhya Pradesh Home minister Narottam Mishra, too, and he instructed Bhopal’s police commissioner to submit a report within 24 hours.
Condemning Shweta’s comment, the minister told journalists: “I have heard and seen her statement. I condemn it and have instructed the Bhopal Police Commissioner to submit a report within 24 hours. Action will be taken accordingly.”
There were protests from several other quarters as well.
Chandrashekhar Tiwari of Sanskriti Bachao Manch demanded an apology from Shweta.
Urging the Home minister to take strict action against the actress, he also urged him not to allow the web series to be shot in Bhopal.
