Kolkata: Jhadsuguda-based Aditya Aluminium bagged the coveted CII Eastern Region SHE (safety health and environment) Excellence Award 2016-2017 in the large manufacturing category (company with over 3,000 employees), while in large mining, Tata Steel Ltd, Noamundi Iron Mine, Jharkhand, cornered the glory.
The winners were felicitated at the 11th Safety Symposium and Exposition organized by CII here on Tuesday.
In the large services (Construction), large services (ICT) and small-scale manufacturing, Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, Wipro Ltd, Neogi Technologies and Research Pvt Ltd respectively were adjudged winners. The successful companies in the Large scale category of manufacturing with up to 3000 employees were Tata Sponge Ltd (winner), ITC Ltd, Kidderpore (1st Runner up), Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Kidderpore (2nd Runner-up).
“The awards were presented to the companies in recognition of their excellent work and setting a new benchmark in safety, health and environment. This can also been seen as CII’s commitment to promoting safety in workplaces,” said Chairman of CII Eastern Region Safety Task Force and Executive Director-CEO of Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd Sandeep Fuller.
Explaining how the companies were judged, CEO and Chief Mentor of Consultivo Saikat Basu said the CII assessors and jury members, which had made a visit to the company premises, counted several parameters, the most important being the “visible management commitment”.
The CII factored how seriously and deeply the leadership is involved in the whole process and, of course how they performed, he added.
