Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered for the transfer of the divorce case filed by actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty in Patiala House Court to the family court in Cuttack, informed Krishan Kumar, lawyer of his estranged wife and actor Varsha Priyadarshini.
Anubhav had filed the divorce suit on July 6, 2020.
The court gave the ruling while hearing an application moved by the Kendrapada MP in the pending transfer petition filed by Varsha.
In his application, Anubhav had requested for expeditious hearing in the case, stating that his parents were unwell and subjected to extreme stress and Varsha was intentionally tarnishing his reputation by washing dirty linen in public.
The MP had also stated that he was being targeted politically over a personal issue.
The Supreme Court fixed a date that would be uploaded later wherein the parties both Anubhav and Varsha have been directed to be present before the family court in Cuttack.
“The family court has been asked to hear the divorce petition as expeditiously as possible,” informed Anubhav’s counsel Ashwani Dubey.
On September 19, 2020, Varsha moved the apex court seeking directions that the petition for divorce filed by her husband be transferred to a family court in Cuttack on grounds that it will be difficult for her to travel to Delhi to attend the hearings.
On October 17, 2020, the SC stayed the divorce petition filed by Kendrapada MP and asked the counsels to settle the dispute between the estranged couple through discussions.
In his divorce petition, Anubhav had accused Varsha of denying him his conjugal rights and failing in her duties as a wife and daughter-in-law. They had been living separately since May 2019, he had added.
