After Backlash, Sanjay Dutt Clarifies ‘Can’t Feel Peace In India’ Remark

Mumbai: Sanjay Dutt has clarified his recent remark about not being able to “feel peace” in India after the comment drew criticism online. The actor said the statement was part of a “scripted conversation” and was not intended to be taken out of context.

Addressing the controversy, Sanjay took to X and said his comments should be understood in the context in which they were originally made.

“I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community, or institution,” he wrote.

He further explained that the remarks were part of a scripted, light-hearted conversation and were not intended as a serious statement against anyone.

“My remarks were made in the context of a scripted conversation intended to be light-hearted and humorous,” he wrote.

The actor added that the comments were ultimately meant to convey a message of “love, warmth, togetherness, and goodwill.”

“The spirit behind them was similar to the humour and satire seen in films like Munna Bhai, particularly the concept of ‘Gandhigiri,’ which was intended to convey a message of love, warmth, togetherness, and goodwill,” he said.

“Unfortunately, my words were interpreted outside of that intended context,” he concluded.

Sanjay was a guest on the special Gandhi Jayanti episode of Shekhar Tonite, where he spoke about India and expressed his wish for greater peace in the country.

“The people of this country are so lovely. There should be peace here. I can’t feel that peace in our country anymore. We Indians are large-hearted people and we are hospitable. We have given so much, and we should always remain that way. I pray to Shivji that those days come back soon,” he said.
