Mumbai: India’s cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar was on Friday presented a ‘Golden Ticket’ for the upcoming ODI World Cup.
Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan had received a similar privilege three days ago as part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) ‘Golden Ticket for India Icons’ programme.
“An iconic moment for cricket and the nation! As part of our ‘Golden Ticket for India Icons’ programme, BCCI Honorary Secretary @JayShah presented the golden ticket to Bharat Ratna Shri @sachin_rt. A symbol of cricketing excellence and national pride, Sachin Tendulkar’s journey has inspired generations. Now, he’ll be part of the @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023, witnessing the action LIVE,” the BCCI posted on X.
The ODI World Cup will be hosted by India from October 5 to November 19.
The tournament will feature 10 teams – India, Australia, England, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan and the Netherlands.
The World Cup will begin with a match between the 2019 finalists — England (champions) and New Zealand (runners-up).
India will begin their campaign against five-time World Cup winners Australia on October 8.
India’s big match against Pakistan will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, on October 14.
