Warsaw: Joe Biden had earlier branded Vladimir Putin as a ‘war criminal’ and killer. On Saturday, the US President described his Russian counterpart as a ‘butcher’.
Biden met Ukrainian refugees who had fled their war-torn country and crossed over to Poland.
Asked what he thought of Putin, the US President said: “He’s a butcher.”
Biden also said he was “not sure” Russia is changing its strategy in Ukraine, notwithstanding reports that they are scaling back military ambitions.
Biden earlier held a surprise meeting with top Ukrainian officials — Foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba and Defence minister Oleksii Reznikov — in the Polish capital of Warsaw, where he and his team discussed how they could further help the war-torn country.
Over 10 million people in Ukraine have been displaced since Russia invaded the east European nation on February 24. Around 3.5 million have fled Ukraine, of whom more than 2 million arrived in Poland.
