Lucknow: In a shocking incident on a sacred occasion, a woman killed her husband by allegedly poisoning his food soon after breaking her fast on Karwa Chauth.
Ironically, the incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi happened on a day when wives pray for their husbands’ long lives as per a Hindu ritual.
According to police, 32-year-old Shailesh Kumar and his wife Savita were facing marital problems.
Giving details, police said Shailesh was busy with preparations for Karwa Chauth rituals on Sunday since morning as his wife observed the customary fast.
In the evening, the couple had an argument just before the wife was due to break her fast.
As the situation appeared to calm down after a while, Savita prepared dinner. After serving Shailesh macaroni laced with poison, Savita left home saying she wanted to visit a neighbour.
As Shailesh’s health deteriorated, his family members rushed him to the hospital.
Shailesh, who passed away while undergoing treatment, recorded a video statement accusing his wife of poisoning him, before he died.
Shocked by Shailesh’s death, his family alerted police, who took the body for post-mortem.
Police registered a case against Savita, based on a complaint filed by Shailesh’s brother.
Savita was later arrested and is being interrogated.
