Nabarangapur: Vigilance sleuths on Friday conducted simultaneous raids on the office and houses of Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Nabarangpur, Ganeshwar Kanar, for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
His rented house and office at Nabarangapur, properties at Bhubaneswar, Phulbani and Parlakhemundi are being searched, sources said.
An FIR was earlier registered against the RTO for allegedly demanding Rs 40,000 to regularise the job of a contractual data entry operator. The incident came to light after a video of the data entry operator, Laxinath Harijan, demanding his money back from the RTO went viral on social media.
He had also lodged written complaints with Nabarangpur ADM NC Sutar and the local police in this regard on February 22.
The data entry operator had further alleged that the RTO had threatened with dire consequences when he asked him to return the amount.
Kuchinda NAC Executive Officer Jitendra Mohapatra is also under the scanner of anti-graft sleuths on DA charges.
