Ajmer: In a suspected act of sabotage, two incidents of dangerously blocking railway tracks have been reported within 24 hours. After an LPG cylinder was found on the rail tracks near Kanpur, two heavy cement blocks were found on the tracks near Ajmer in Rajasthan on Sunday night.
In the Rajasthan incident, two cement blocks weighing about 70 kg were deliberately placed between Saradhna and Bangad stations. A goods train that passed that stretch hit the blockade and continued on its journey without sustaining any damage. The incident was reported at around 10.30 pm on the Phulera –Ahmedabad stretch of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. The two cement blocks were kept separated by a distance from each other. On the complaint by railway employees, an FIR under the Railway Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act was registered.
Less than a month ago, Sabarmati Express derailed near Govindpuri station in Kanpur after the engine hit an object placed on the tracks. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
In the Kanpur incident in which LPG cylinder was found on the tracks, the driver of Kalindi Express which was about to cross that stretch narrowly avoided hitting the LPG cylinder by putting a brake. Besides the LPG cylinder, the driver also noticed suspicious items like a petrol bottle and matchboxes. After being informed by railway employees, Kanpur police registered an FIR and detained six suspects. The train was travelling from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to Bhiwani in Haryana.
BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia condemned these incidents and termed them acts of sabotage aimed at destabilising the country.
“The nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is so capable that it can destroy and finish off those who hatch conspiracies. This is a matter of concern that there are some people and organisations who, in their greed for power, want the country to witness riots and anarchy. Tough action has been taken against such acts and strict action will be taken in the future as well,” Bhatia said.
