London: A week after resigning as an MP, Boris Johnson has got a new job.
The former UK Prime Minister was on Friday named as a columnist for the Daily Mail newspaper. It will mark his return to journalism, having previously written for several leading British publications and even being sacked from one for making up a quote, reported Reuters.
The 58-year-old Johnson, who stood down as a lawmaker for being found guilty of deliberately misleading Parliament over parties during COVID-19 lockdowns, will write for the Daily Mail every Saturday.
“Whether you’re a Boris fan or not, it’s going to be required reading — both in Westminster and for millions across the world,” the paper said.
Johnson, one of Britain’s best known and most divisive politicians, has earned millions of pounds from speaking tours since resigning as Prime Minister last year.
His new job in journalism is expected to be just as lucrative.
Johnson, who has courted scandal frequently, started his working life in journalism, but was sacked by the Times for fabricating a quote.
He then wrote for the Daily Telegraph, and later pursued parallel media and political careers as editor of the Spectator magazine and as a member of Parliament.
