Ahmedabad: Shubman Gill tormented England once again to help Team India put up a huge total of 356 in the third and final ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Wednesday.
The stylish opener stroked his way to 112 off 102 balls, striking 14 fours and 3 sixes, en route to his seventh century in his 50th ODI game for his country.
Gill had scored 87 in the series opener at Nagpur and 60 at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium, where India took an unbeatable 2-0 lead.
After Cuttack centurion Rohit Sharma fell for 1 in the second over, Gill and Virat Kohli batted cautiously in the next five overs before getting into a fluent rhythm. Gill added 116 runs for the second wicket with Kohli (52 off 55 balls, 7×4, 1×6) — who made a welcome return to form ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy — and then an attractive 104 for the third wicket Shreyas Iyer (78 off 64, 8×4, 2×6).
Like Gill, Iyer extended his run of good scores, having made 59 and 44 in the first two games of the series.
KL Rahul helped himself to an effortless 40 off 29 balls, which meant that India’s top five batters are all among runs in the lead-up to the Champions Trophy.
India will open their Champions Trophy campaign with a clash against Bangladesh on February 20. Though Pakistan is hosting the tournament, India will be playing all their matches in Dubai.
