Bhubaneswar: Two days after the Sishupalgarh firing incident, a youth was shot dead at point-blank in Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar early on Saturday, raising serious questions over the law and order situation in the capital city.
The deceased has been identified as Sonu Nayak of Haladipadia, while preliminary investigation by the police pointed to his brother-in-law as the alleged shooter.
Sources said Sonu’s brother-in-law was suspected to have hatched the conspiracy and executed the gruesome murder. Preliminary investigation suggests that a family dispute is the reason behind the crime.
According to the latest information, an altercation broke out between Sonu and his brother-in-law over a family dispute. During the heated argument, the latter pulled out a firearm and opened fire at Sonu in a fit of rage.
The bullet struck Sonu, who collapsed at the spot. He sustained critical injuries and died following the shooting.
Preliminary reports suggested that Sonu was travelling with four friends towards a petrol pump in Rasulgarh when unidentified miscreants intercepted their vehicle in Bomikhal and shot him at point-blank range.
However, subsequent investigation sowed a different sequence of events. Police suspect that the family members allegedly staged a story to mislead investigators and conceal the actual circumstances surrounding the murder.
Laxmisagar police have detained two persons for questioning in connection with the case. A scientific team also visited the crime scene to collect evidence.
The police are investigating the family dispute and the circumstances that led to the shooting. Further details are awaited.
