Agitating Farmers Call For Bharat Bandh On December 8
New Delhi: Agitating farmers on Friday called for a nationwide protest against the new farm bills and announced a Bharat Bandh on December 8.
Two rounds of deliberations with the Centre and representatives of the farmers have failed to yield any resolution till now. Both the sides have agreed to meet again on Sunday.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, however, has hinted that the Narendra Modi government could amend three provisions in the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, which is the crux of the protest.
Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chadoni said if the Union government doesn’t accept their demands during Saturday’s talks, they will intensify the agitation and move to toll plazas. Into the ninth day of their ‘Delhi Chalo’ programme, thousands of farmers from Haryana, Punjab, and other states have been blocking various points of the Delhi border.
