Agnipath: Govt Bans 35 WhatsApp Groups For Spreading Fake News, 10 Arrested

New Delhi: The Central government on Sunday banned 35 WhatsApp groups for spreading fake news about Agnipath, the recently-announced military recruitment scheme.

The government believes that the violent protests against the new scheme, seen in different states of India over the last five days, are the result of misinformation and misunderstanding on the short-term recruitment model for Indian youth to serve in the Armed forces.

The government has been tracking people involved in spreading misinformation about the new scheme, and followed up with the arrest of at least 10 people for misleading youths on Agnipath.

The Press Information Bureau has also opened a fact check line to verify information about the scheme. To clear any doubts, people can check through the WhatsApp number 8799711259.
