New Delhi: Speaking on the fourth day of the ongoing AI Summit in New Delhi, IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said frontier AI companies, along with India’s own innovators, have committed to advancing understanding of real-world AI usage to support policies on various issues, including jobs, with multilingual and contextual evaluations under the ‘New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said New Delhi is not just a part of the AI revolution, but is leading and shaping it.

He added that under the ‘New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments’, “leading frontier AI companies, along with India’s own innovators such as Sarvam, Bharatjan, Yani and Soket, have come together to make a set of voluntary commitments. These reflect a shared vision for inclusive and responsible AI, the minister said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India sees the future in artificial intelligence, adding that the country has the “talent, energy and policy clarity” for the same.

The PM spoke about the MANAV vision for artificial intelligence at the AI Impact Summit. This vision will focus on a human vision for technology as follows –

M – moral and ethical systems

A – accountable governance

N – national sovereignty

A – accessible and inclusive

V – valid and legitimate

Democratization of AI

Modi called for the democratisation of artificial intelligence. He emphasized that AI development must be ‘welfare and happiness for all.’ “AI needs to be given an open sky while the reins of the commands stay with humans,” he added.

Google to build AI hub in Vizag

Google is establishing a full-stack AI hub in Visakhapatnam as part of its $15-billion investment into building the AI ecosystem in India, Sundar Pichai said, as reported by Hindustan Times.

“Visakhapatnam, once a modest coastal city, is now becoming a global AI hub with Google establishing a full-stack AI hub as part of a $15 billion investment,” Pichai said. “The hub will include large-scale compute and a subsea cable gateway, bringing jobs and AI capabilities to India. The transformation reflects how far technology and infrastructure have advanced.”

Bill Gates skips AI summit

According to various media reports, Bill Gates has pulled out of delivering his keynote address at an AI summit in India Thursday. This comes as the billionaire faces scrutiny over his ties to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“After careful consideration, and to ensure the focus remains on the AI Summit’s key priorities, Mr. Gates will not be delivering his keynote address,” the Gates Foundation said in a statement just hours before he was due to speak, according to a CNN report. No reason was cited for the withdrawal.
