Bhubaneswar: A huge walkathon for ‘Organ Donation Awareness’ was organised by the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, here on Sunday.
Hockey India chairman Dilip Tirkey took part in the event. He congratulated AIIMS for its efforts in launching the walkathon for organ donation cause.
He also said that the students of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar would further work to eliminate many superstitions just like the organ donation cause, which is a need of the hour.
In this walkathon, AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Professor Ashutosh Biswas, Medical Superintendent Professor SN Mohanty, Dean Dr PR Mahapatra, Chancellor BB Mishra, Dr Prabhas Ranjan Tripathi, Dr Sanjay Giri, DDA Rashmi Ranjan Sethi, Nursing College President Asha P Setty, Dr Prashant Nayak, Dr Subrata Sahu, Dr Several faculty members including Hemant Nayak, Professor Vinyendra Pamecha, pioneer of liver transplant surgery in the government sector participated and encouraged the students.
It is worth mentioning here that the ‘Organ Donation Awareness’ workshop and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme organized on Saturday by the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar was attended by nationally renowned experts to create widespread awareness among the public about organ donation including a selection of suitable donors and recipients, organ allocation, grieving families.
