New Delhi: Air India seems to be hitting the headlines almost every day, unfortunately for the wrong reasons.
On Tuesday, Emmy Award-winning comedian Vir Das took to social media to narrate his experience while flying to Delhi with his wife, who has a fractured leg. Das claims that he paid more for some additional facilities.
According to his post, the seat allotted to him on a ‘refurbished’ aircraft had its table and leg rests broken. The backrest of the seat also remained stuck in an awkward reclining position and could not be straightened. Das claims that he paid as much as Rs 50,000 per ticket.
He also claims that the ordeal continued after the aircraft landed in Delhi after two hours. Though he had pre-booked a wheelchair, none arrived. To make things worse, there was no aerobridge. His wife apparently had to limp down the ladder.
Das claims that he received no assistance (despite having paid for a wheelchair and assistant) even after entering the terminal. There were wheelchairs around but no staff, as the flight was delayed. Finally, he wheeled his wife outside.
Air India responded to Das – something that the airline does not normally do with non-celebrity flyers – and posted: “Dear Mr Das, we understand and empathize with the experience. Please share us the booking details via DM for us to look into this on priority (sic).”
“AI816. Get your wheelchair bro (sic),” Das responded.
