Kolkata: A decommissioned Air India 111-feet Airbus A-319 atop a trailer being transported to Chandigarh created chaos on Jessore Road near BT College in Kolkata on Sunday after it hit a lamp post.
While the driver fled leaving the aircraft parked on the trailer, the cops had to be on their toes even till late at night managing the traffic and looking for tarpaulin sheets to keep it covered from public view.
The scrapped passenger carrier was en route to Chandigarh when it hit the lamp post on Jessore Road at about 3.15 pm and also damaged many police traffic lights. Motorists plying on the road stopped to see the aircraft causing roadblocks.
There were reports of accidents also as people stood in the middle of the road to take pictures. “At least one cyclist was hospitalised when he stopped to take photograph and a car hit him. There were multiple other small accidents,” said an officer to Times Of India.
