Mumbai: In another case of cybercrime, Air India’s Twitter account was hacked late on Thursday night and the name was changed to @airindiaTR. The cover image was changed to that of Turkish Airlines and a tweet read “Last minute important announcement: All our flights have been cancelled. From now we will fly with Turkish Airlines.”
There were several tweets in Turkish language. One tweet claimed “Your account has been hacked by the Turkish cyber army Ayyildiz Tim. Your DM correspondence and important data have been captured.”
This particular group has allegedly been associated with hacking accounts of other celebrities such as Anupam Kher, MP Swapan Das Gupta, LG Kiran Bedi and BJP’s Ram Madhav.
Air India has released a statement saying, “The Air India official twitter handle @airtindiain has been hacked late last night with a malafide intent to mislead passengers. Air India immediately swung into action and took up the matter with the twitter authorities. All malicious content was removed on a war-footing. It is expected that normalcy would be restored soon. All Air India flights are operating as per schedule. Passengers are requested to ignore any misleading and mischievous communication on our operations.”
Twitter’s official support team has also responded saying that they are looking into the matter.
