Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra Named In Case Against ‘Thank God’; Know Why

Jaunpur: A case has been filed against the producers of upcoming film ‘Thank God’ for hurting religious sentiments.

Lead actors Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra, along with director Indra Kumar, have been named in the case which has been listed for hearing at a Jaunpur court on November 18.

A trailer of ‘Thank God’ was released last week, which shows Devgn playing Chitragupta — the Hindu deity who keeps records of what a person does during his lifetime. Devgn wears a blazer, pant and shirt.

Malhotra, who meets Chitragupta after dying in an accident, is shown an account of his deeds on Earth.

“Chitragupta is regarded as the Lord of Karma and keeps a record of a man’s good and bad deeds. Such depiction of Gods can create an unpleasant situation since it hurts religious sentiments,” states the petition filed by advocate Himanshu Srivastava, with Ravi Prakash Pal, Anand Srivastava, Maan Singh, Brijesh Nishad and Vinod Srivastava as co-complainants, according to a report in Desimartini.

According to the petition, the film hurts religious sentiments of the Kayastha community.

Accusing Ajay of using “poor jokes and objectionable words”, the petition also alleges that ‘Thank God’ is an attempt to spread “hatred and humiliation”.

“To earn profit and increase TRP, objectionable scenes have been filmed, which adversely affected communal harmony,” states the petition.

‘Thank God’, scheduled to release in theatres on October 25, also stars Rakul Preet Singh as Sidharth’s wife who plays a policewoman.
