Mumbai: Akshay Kumar may be pushing 60, but he remains one of the busiest actors in the Bollywood industry. And when he’s not shooting for his films, Akshay engages in philanthropic work, and pitches in for environmental and social causes.
Days ahead of his 58th birthday (September 9), Akshay participated in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s clean-up drive at Juhu Beach on Sunday morning.
The ‘Hera Pheri’ actor joined Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ wife Amruta and BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani to clean the beach following the Ganpati Visarjan (immersion) festivities.
Akshay, wearing gloves, was seen picking up garlands and other materials from the beach along with other eminent personalities and dumping them in big waste disposal bags.
The initiative is aimed to raise awareness about keeping Mumbai’s beaches clean and pollution-free.

Amruta Fadnavis said different organisations joined the clean-up drive in an effort to keep the beaches clean. “As celebrating festivals is our right, we should also keep the beaches clean.. it is our responsibility,” said the CM’s wife.
“Last night the immersion was completed and this morning we are conducting this cleanup drive at Juhu Beach… Our sea should shine, not be dirty. We must ensure that there is no dirt, and we don’t create any dirt at all. If there is dirt, it is our responsibility to clean it,” Amruta said, lauding the efforts of Akshay and others.
On the work front, Akshay is gearing up for the release of ‘Jolly LLB 3’, which also stars Arshad Warsi. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on September 19.
Among Akshay’s other projects, the highly-anticipated ‘Hera Pheri 3’ is back on track after a fallout with Paresh Rawal. Akshay will also be seen in ‘Bhooth Bangla’, alongside Wamiqa Gabbi, and ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.
