Mumbai: If reports are to be believed, a sequel of the Akshay Kumar starrer blockbuster action flick ‘Rowdy Rathore’ is already in the making and the star cast will be revealed soon.
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has roped in Kannada director Prem for developing the script of the ‘Rowdy Rathore’s sequel, according to a report in Pinkvilla.
The source, as quoted by Pinkvilla, revealed that Bhansali is quite elated to produce the sequel and had also locked the core plot of the film before asking the Kannada director to work on the script.
“The basic idea of Rowdy Rathore 2 has been in place for the longest time, and SLB was looking to partner with right forces to developing a banger of a sequel to this 2012 blockbuster. His thoughts have aligned with Prem and the duo is working towards developing the script of Rowdy Rathore 2,” shared the source.
“Prem will full fledged move into the pre-production of Rowdy Rathore 2 after the release of KD – The Devil. The film is expected to take off sometime by the end of 2025, and the casting will begin from Summer next year. Right now, the energies are being invested to develop a script that does justice to the legacy of first part,” the source added.
Now that the script is in the making, who will be playing the lead role in the sequel?
Several names including Shahid Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Siddharth Malhotra and the original Rowdy Rathore Akshay Kumar have been doing the rounds for the sequel.
When asked about the lead hero, the source said, “We shall know that at the right time. It could be Akshay Kumar, a new hero or who knows, a two-hero film too.”
The 2010 cop-drama ‘Rowdy Rathore’, helmed by Prabhudeva, featured Akshay Kumar as the honest and brave cop Vikram Rathore, who dies at the hands of corrupt politicians.
As the film proceeds, Vikram is replaced by his look-alike Shiva, to catch the culprits. Akshay Kumar plays a double role in the movie. The movie also stars Sonakshi Sinha as Akshay’s lady love.
