Alarming COVID Spike: Section 144 Extended In Mumbai Till Jan 15
Mumbai: Restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC was on Friday extended in Mumbai till January 15, 2022 due to the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, including the Omicron variant.
Gatherings of five or more people will this continue to be prohibited in public spaces. Citizens won’t be able to visit beaches, open grounds, sea faces, promenades, gardens, parks, etc. from 5 pm to 5 am.
Mumbai reported 3,671 new coronavirus infections – a 46% increase over the previous day — in the last 24 hours, including 190 Omicron cases which are doubling daily.
Mumbai Police had earlier clamped Section 144 in the ‘Maximum City’ from December 30 to January 7.
There is a complete ban in Mumbai on New Year’s celebrations, parties in any closed or open space including restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, resorts, and clubs from December 30 to January 7.
The Maharashtra government has also announced fresh restrictions to control the coronavirus surge in the state.
“In case of marriages or any other social, political or religious event, the maximum number of attendees shall be restricted to 50 persons. The maximum number of attendees is restricted to 20 in funerals,” the state government’s order said.
