Amazon has added Hindi language to its Alexa voice assistant in India. The smart voice assistant will also understand a combination of English and Hindi, that is, Hinglish.
To activate Hindi, just ask, “Alexa, help me set up Hindi.”
It can understand commands such as “Bollywood ke latest gane sunao”, “cricket score batao”, “sher ki aawaaz sunao”, or “Alexa, apne baare mei batao”.
“We are thrilled to bring a suite of AI advances in multi-lingual understanding so that customers can interact with Alexa in different regional variants of colloquial Hindi. We are grateful to Indian customers who contributed to Hindi development through the Cleo skill,” said Rohit Prasad, vice president, and head scientist, Alexa AI, Amazon, in a statement.
Amazon Echo holds a 50 percent market share in smart speakers market in India followed by Google Home, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).
Apps with Hindi-flavour have already been developed for Alexa. Some of them are Ola, ChuChu TV, All India Radio, RedFM, and Amar Chitra Katha.
