Rawalpindi: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces Asim Munir’s daughter got married recently.
If you thought that was pretty routine news, wait till you hear the next part.
Field Marshal Munir got Mahnoor, his third daughter, married into his own family!
Mahnoor did nikah with his first cousin Captain Abdul Rahman, who happens to be the son of Munir’s brother Qasim.
The groom served as Captain in the Pakistan Army before joining Civil Services, where he now serves as Assistant Commissioner under the quota reserved for army officers.
The wedding took place at Asim Munir’s residence, located near General Headquarters (GHQ) (Pakistan Army). in Rawalpindi on December 26. It was a private event, and no photographs were released, Pakistani media reported.
UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, ISI chief and other top generals of the Pakistani army attended the wedding ceremony.
Asim Munir’s arrangement of his daughter’s marriage to his brother’s son is being seen as an attempt to consolidate clan at the highest levels of Pakistan Army.
According to Indian intelligence sources, the hosting of such family functions at military-controlled venues in Rawalpindi signals the Army’s intent to formalise bloodline trust networks.
Even as Munir has emerged as an all-powerful man who wields tremendous power, Pakistan is currently facing internal dissent, economic stress and criticism of the army’s growing political dominance.
