Bhubaneswar: With budget session of the Odisha Assembly set to commence on Tuesday, an all-party meeting was held in Bhubaneswar on Monday for smooth functioning of the House.
The meeting, chaired by Speaker Surama Padhy, aimed at ensuring a smooth and coordinated session by facilitating dialogue among various political parties and addressing key legislative matters.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Opposition Deputy Leader Prasanna Acharya, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Rama Chandra Kadam.
The discussion focused on ensuring a peaceful and orderly conduct of the House, stated Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Mahaling following the end of the meeting.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who hold Finance portfolio, is slated to present the state budget for the 2026–27 financial year on February 20. Therefore, the House will take up discussions on the demands for grants of various departments.
Apart from the all-party meeting, opposition BJD and Congress are also slated to hold separate discussions in their respective legislature parties to chalk out their strategy to be adopted for the session. Sources indicate that the Opposition is likely to raise issues such as paddy procurement and the Mahanadi River dispute, among others.
On its part, the ruling BJP is also set to deliberate strategies for responding to the opposition move effectively in the House.
