Amazon employees may continue working from home up to June 2021. The option to avoid returning to office was earlier till January 2021.

An Amazon spokeswoman said: “Employees who work in a role that can effectively be done from home are welcome to do so until June 30, 2021.”

This fresh instruction comes in light of complaints from some staff, elected officials and unions on Amazon risking the safety of employees, amidst the report of 19,000 frontline workers being infected this year, NDTV reported.

“We have invested significant funds and resources to keep those who choose to come to the office safe through physical distancing, deep cleaning, temperature checks, and by providing face coverings and hand sanitizer,” added the spokeswoman.

The trend of working from home indefinitely was started in May by Twitter, and has been adopted by other renowned tech companies. Microsoft has allowed employees to work remotely for up to half their weekly working hours, while Facebook has extended work from home option till July 2021, and Google till June.
