Bengaluru: E-commerce giant Amazon on Thursday launched its food delivery service Amazon Food in India.
The service was started in Bengaluru on a pilot basis for deliveries from cloud kitchens and local restaurants.
To differentiate, Amazon has created a proprietary hygiene certification bar that it claims is “adhering to the highest standards of safety”. This would help win customers’ trust during COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, the service is live in four pin codes in Bengaluru — 560048, 560037, 560066, and 560103.
After Uber Eats’ exit in January, Zomato and Swiggy were ruling the food delivery space. But things have been tough for both Zomato and Swiggy, who have announced laying off 600 and 1,100 staff respectively. The challenge will be bigger now with a deep-pocketed player like Amazon entering the space.
