Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at an event
Washington: While job losses are on the rise throughout the world, Amazon has pumped in a breath of fresh air by deciding to hire 1,00,000 workers in the US and Canada. This is the e-commerce company’s 4th hiring spree in 2020 fuelled by a surge in online shopping due to lockdowns and social distancing requirements.
The extra jobs will be for both full and part-time positions and the company is rolling out 100 new warehouse and operations sites this month.
After this hiring, the total number of employees at Amazon globally will be close to 1 million.
The new employees will get at least $15 an hour and bonus up to $1,000.
