Chennai: The divorce proceedings involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam have been adjourned till August 7.
The case has drawn considerable public attention, particularly after allegations of adultery were reportedly mentioned in the petition.
The hearing at Chengalpattu court began around 10.30 am. Despite both parties — actor-politician Vijay and Sangeetha — b
eing present, the day’s hearing ended without any significant breakthrough or settlement.
Sangeetha had approached the court seeking a legal dissolution of her 27-year marriage to Vijay.
In her petition filed under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, Sangeetha has alleged adultery and cruelty against Vijay.
While the petition does not identify the woman, it’s widely believed that actress Trisha Krishnan is the person concerned.
According to the petition, Vijay allegedly assured Sangeetha on multiple occasions that he would end the relationship, but she claims the association continued.
The filing further alleges that the two were frequently seen travelling together and making public appearances.
Sangeetha also states that photos from these outings were regularly shared on social media, allegedly causing her and their children considerable emotional distress and public embarrassment.
Vijay and Sangeetha dated for a while before tying the knot in 1999. The couple has two children, a son, Jason Sanjay and a daughter, Divya Sasha.
