Mumbai: Rajpal Yadav has been in the headlines recently for the wrong reasons.
The Bollywood actor, embroiled in a debt and cheque-bounce case, is in Tihar Jail after surrendering.
A number of Rajpal’s friends and Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Sonu Sood, have come forward to help the struggling actor.
Now, boxer-turned-politician Vijender Singh has extended support to Rajpal. The Olympic medallist has offered a role to Rajpal in his upcoming film.
“I respect true talent. @rajpalofficial has given a lot to Indian cinema. He’s brought a smile to our faces through various characters. I invite Rajpal Yadav to be a part of my next film, which is written and directed by @thesanjusaini, and we want to support him at this time (fist emoji),” Rajpal posted on X.
Filmmaker Sanju Saini reshared Rajpal’s post and wrote: “We love to see @rajpalofficial Sir on our set. Thanks @boxervijender bhaisaab… Ye support sirf Rajpal Yadav sir ko hi nhi, humari film ko bhi bada kregi… thanks a lot bhaisaab (This support will not only help Rajpal Yadav, but also make our film much bigger).”
Rajpal reportedly borrowed Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt. Ltd to finance his directorial debut ‘Ata Pata Laapata’. With the film not doing well at the box office, Rajpal struggled to repay the amount.
He surrendered on February 5, and will remain in jail until at least February 16, when the case will come up for further hearing in the Delhi High Court.
Sonu Sood was the first to offer Rajpal financial help.
“Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us, producers, directors, colleagues, to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity; it’s dignity. When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry,” Sonu wrote.
