Bhubaneswar: Mounting a scathing attack on Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused both the opposition parties of violating the dignity of the state Assembly.
Addressing a press meet in Bhubaneswar, BJP’s Odisha unit president Manmohan Samal claimed that the opposition parties disrupted the proceedings in the Assembly by indulging in unruly behaviour.
“Such unruly behavior inside the Assembly was not expected from a responsible opposition,” he said, condemning the manner in which the Speaker was treated in the Assembly.
Stressing that the opposition should engage in constructive criticism instead of resorting to disorderly conduct, the senior BJP leader accused the opposition parties of resorting to short-term political gameplans instead of contributing towards good governance for the interest of the people and the state.
Stating that the opposition parties are struggling to move past their defeat in the elections held last year, Samal claimed that BJD is behaving like a ruling party as it thinks that the party is still in power in the state.
Asking the opposition parties to introspect, the BJP leader said the opposition should engage in meaningful discussions, and work for the welfare of Odisha instead of opposing the government without valid reasons.
Seeking to rake up past controversies, Samal certain incidents that took place during Congress and BJD rule had tarnished Odisha’s image and created dark chapters in political history.
Samal further stated that the BJP had extended full cooperation when the opposition was in power and called upon them to do the same for the state’s progress.
However, the recent incidents in the Assembly have tarnished the sanctity of the House. The way the opposition behaves with the Speaker is not acceptable, the BJP leader said.
