Bhubaneswar: Beautiful diyas and other striking items made of clay were showcased in the exhibition ‘Mruttika’, inaugurated at the exhibition ground in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Different types of diyas are on sale in 90 stalls at the ground ahead of Diwali. More than 180 artisans from Keonjhar, Jajpur, Balasore, Subarnapur, Baragada, Rayagada, Khurdha, Nayagad, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur, Balangir, Kendrapada, Puri, Sundargad, Malkangiri and Koraput have displayed their works in the exhibition.
Besides, flower vases, home décor items, daily use items made of clay are also available. Last year, there was a business of around Rs 112 lakh, whereas this year, business of more than Rs 125 lakh is expected from the sale of terracotta items in the exhibition.
The timing is 2 pm to 9 pm.
The seven-day exhibition, organised by State Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department, will culminate on November 5. Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts Department Secretary, Subha Sharma inaugurated the exhibition.
More than 10,000 craftsmen are involved in making traditional terracotta items and home decor items in Odisha. Three craftsmen of Odisha have received national level awards whereas, 18 have received state level awards.
