Bhubaneswar: Less than a fortnight after Commissionerate Police arrested two members of an ‘apartment lootera gang’, another apartment was looted in Bhubaneswar late Tuesday night.
As per reports, the miscreants targeted the Kalyan Heights apartment at Bhimpur under Pahala police station in the city. They looted three flats in the apartment which were locked as their occupants were away.
Though the looters managed to dodge the security guard in the apartment, their movements were captured in the CCTV camera. They were 4-5 persons and had their faces covered with towels and other clothes. The footage from CCTV cameras reveal the miscreants entering the locked flats by breaking the locks of main doors.
They decampaed with 6 rings, 10 necklaces, 8 lockets, all made of gold and Rs 15,000 in cash. The value of looted jewellery was estimated to be around Rs 30 lakh.
On being informed, a team from Pahala police station along with a scientific team went to the apartment and started investigation.
It may be noted that a special squad of Commissionerate Police had arrested two members of an apartment lootera gang, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Sing had told the media. “They are mostly from Gujarat and Haryana. They come in vehicles without number plate and enter random apartments. This gang is active in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Some members were also arrested in Gujarat earlier, he added.
The police action followed after armed miscreants executed a series of robberies at a guarded apartment in Infocity area in October last year and stole household items worth more than Rs 40 lakh from four vacant flats on different floors.
A month later, a burglars’ gang targeted five flats of an apartment in Gadakana area. One of the flat owners, Rajesh Pahadi, in his complaint stated that the miscreants had broken open the locker his steel almirah and taken away jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh besides Rs 1 lakh in cash.
On November 25, 2022, eight armed dacoits looted cash and jewellery worth over Rs 6 lakh from a house at Raghunathpur in Nandankanan area here after tying up the family members with ropes and locking them in their bathroom.
