Chennai: A second-year student pursuing 4-year B. Tech course at IIT-Madras committed suicide, police said on Friday.
The 20-year-old, identified as Kedar Suresh, was a resident of Cauvery Hostel. On seeing his room locked for hours, Suresh’s friends informed the warden, who then reported to the police.
On reaching the site, cops broke open the door and found Suresh hanging from a ceiling fan.
A case has been registered by Kotturpuram police while the deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
It’s the fourth such incident related to IIT-Madras in a span of three months.
Sachin Kumar, a Ph.D student and a native of West Bengal, ended his life at his friend’s place in Chennai three weeks ago.
In March, a third-year student allegedly died by suicide in his hostel room.
Just two days ago, IIT-Madras conducted a wellness session series for its students, keeping in mind the recent spate of incidents.
IIT has launched the programme to increase awareness on mental health and different options available to students to address stress-related issues.
