First Tata’s Altroz and now Mahindra’s XUV300 boasts of scoring full five stars at Global NCAP’s crash tests. What’s impressive is that the XUV300 has scored the highest points of all cars tested on adult occupant protection (16.42 out of a potential 17). This is the 3rd made-in-India vehicle to receive 5-star rating. The XUV300 has also received the highest points for safety.

The XUV300 scored 5 stars in adult occupant protection and 4 stars for child protection.

The XUV300 has scored 37.44 of a potential 49 for child occupant protection. The recently tested Tata Altroz scored 16.13 points on adult occupant protection and 29 points on child occupant protection.

Head, neck and knee protection for adult occupants were found to be ‘good’. Chest protection for front passenger was rated ‘good’, and ‘adequate’ for the driver.

The XUV300’s report stated that it had “the lowest level of intrusion and best side-impact crashworthiness performance of any model tested so far”.

The report further said that the XUV300 missed out on securing a full five stars on child occupant protection owing to ‘poor ISOFIX markings’ and that a three-point seatbelt for the middle-seat passenger is not standard across the line-up and is only available on the top-of-the-line W8 (O) variant.

The SUV gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, cornering brake control, disc brakes for all four wheels, front seatbelt reminder system, front seatbelt pretensioners, and a passenger airbag deactivation switch. The top variant W8(O) gets seven airbags, front parking sensors, heated ORVMs, seatbelt reminders for all passengers, and a three-point seatbelt for the middle-seat passenger.

The XUV300 is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine which makes 117hp and 300Nm of torque, or a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol producing 110hp and 200Nm of torque. There is an AMT option on the diesel variant.

Mahindra has priced the XUV300 petrol (BS6) from Rs 8.30 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh. The diesel (BS4) will be upgraded to BS6 and is currently priced between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 12.69 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
