Keonjhar: A youth went missing after being swept away by a strong current at Garjan Khol waterfall in Nagira panchayat under Pallahara sub-division in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Friday.
The incident took place around 11 am when Lipun Behera, a resident of Balrai village in the district, was recording reels for social media while taking a bath in the waterfall with two friends.
According to sources, the recent rains had intensified the water flow. Lipun lost balance while bathing in the upper section of the waterfall and was pulled into a deep pool at its base, where he vanished. His friends reported losing their mobile phone in the chaos.
While Lipun could not be traced till late evening, a joint search operation by Pallahara and Bansapal Fire Service personnel, aided by locals, resumed this morning to locate him.
The waterfall, situated in a remote forest, was discovered only two years ago.
This incident came a week after a young YouTuber from Berhampur in Ganjam district was swept away by strong currents at the Duduma waterfall in Koraput district.
