Guwahati: A man travelling from Mumbai on an IndiGo flight was handed over to the police on arrival in Guwahati following a complaint of sexual harassment by a female co-passenger.
The woman accused the man of lifting the armrest and groping her while the cabin lights were dimmed on the late-night flight on Sunday.
An FIR was registered against the man and he was handed over to Guwahati airport police, the airline said.
IndiGo flight 6E-5319 departed from Mumbai around 9 pm and landed in Guwahati shortly after midnight.
The woman told The Times of India she was on an aisle seat and had fallen asleep after the cabin lights were dimmed. She had lowered the armrest before dozing off, but woke up to find the armrest up and her male co-passenger leaning close to her.
“I found it weird because I distinctly remembered putting the hand down. Half asleep, I didn’t think too much about it, put the armrest down again and went back to sleep. On waking up after some time, I found the man’s hands on her, but since his eyes were shut I didn’t want to jump to conclusions,” she said.
She then pretended to be asleep.
In a couple of minutes, the man groped her, touching her inappropriately. The woman said she wanted to scream, but ‘froze’.
When the man tried to grope her again, she pulled his hand away, and screamed.
Turning the seat lights on, she called the cabin crew.
“He started apologising for what he did, while I was shouting, crying and narrating the incident,” the woman narrated.
This is the fourth case of sexual harassment involving passengers on board flights in the past three months.
