Brahmapur: In a tragic incident, a young woman died after allegedly setting herself on fire at her house in Odisha’s Brahmapur on Wednesday.
According to information, the incident took place at Shantinagar Lane-5 under the jurisdiction of the Bada Bazar police station in the morning. The woman allegedly poured kerosene and set herself ablaze.
Following the incident, family members and local residents immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital. The woman was subsequently referred to a hospital in Kataka as her condition was highly critical.
However, the succumbed to her burn injuries while being shifted to Kataka, police sources said.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
The exact reason behind the extreme step taken by the woman was immediately not known. Further details are awaited as the investigation is underway.
The incident occurred close on the heels of the death of another young woman from the city who ended her life by setting herself on fire accusing her father of sexual abuse. Her father, a teacher, was arrested based on the woman’s statement.
