New Delhi: National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials raided multiple locations across different districts in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. Members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) have been picked up for questioning in connection with instigating violence and illegal activities. Officials also raided a house in Telangana’s Nizamabad district and issued a notice to a man to visit the NIA office in Hyderabad on Monday.
As many as 23 teams of NIA officials simultaneously conducted searches in Nizamabad, Kurnool, Guntur and Nellore districts. The raids are related to information on terrorist activities in the area, India Today reported quoting sources.
While NIA searches were underway in Nandyal and Kurnool, several locals protested against officials who arrived there and raised slogans asking them to return. Searches are also underway in Telangana’s Nizamabad district. NIA officials have conducted searches at the house of a man identified as Shahid Chousih and seized his passport and bank passbook. He has also been issued a notice to come to the Hyderabad NIA office on Monday.
“They took two phones, a passport, and bank passbooks, looked into transactions and asked if there was anything I wanted to tell them, to which I responded that I run a service centre. That’s all. Nothing else. They asked me to come to the Hyderabad NIA office and handed me a notice,” the man whose house was raided was quoted as saying.
NIA searches have been underway since dawn in the Khaja Nagar area in Nellore district’s Buchireddypalem town. Officials are searching the residence of a person identified as Ilyaz, who has been missing for the last three months.
He is allegedly connected with terrorist activities and runs a tiffin shop in Khaja Nagar. Officials are currently interrogating Ilyaz’s family members, the report added.
