Anupam Kher Urges Govt To Convert ‘DDLJ’ Railway Track Into Tourist Destination

New Delhi: Anupam Kher has urged the government to preserve the railway track associated with the iconic train sequence from ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ by developing it into a tourist destination.

Calling the spot an important part of Indian cinema’s history, the veteran actor said the location holds emotional value for generations of movie lovers and deserves recognition as a cultural landmark.

The iconic train sequence, in which Raj (played by Shah Rukh Khan) stretches out his hand to help Simran (played by Kajol) board the moving train, is cherished as one of the most memorable moments in Indian cinema.

Over the years, the scene has been recreated and referenced in numerous films.

Anupam, who played SRK’s father Dharamvir in the iconic film, shared a video on Instagram on Monday while visiting the Apta railway station, in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.

In the clip, the veteran said he believes almost every Indian across the world is familiar with the film’s iconic train scene.

“I have come to a railway station, an iconic scene of an iconic film was shot here, it is an Indian cinema history that every Indian all over the world must have seen and remembered. The scene is from ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. It’s like going to Sicily for a sequence of ‘The Godfather’. These are iconic places… Thankful to Yash ji and Adi , for having me in iconic film”, Anupam says in the video.

Directed the Aditya Chopra, the film revolves around Simran and Raj, who meet during an Europe trip and fall for each other. When Raj learns that Simran is getting married to someone else, he follows her to India to win over her family.

Released in 1995, DDLJ continues to resonate with the audience decades after its release.
