Bhubaneswar: Union Ministers Anurag Thakur and Dharmendra Pradhan paid tributes to freedom fighters and great sons of the soil at ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ programme at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The two Union Ministers, who arrived in Odisha capital this morning, attended the programme organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) at Vani Vihar campus of Utkal University.
During the programme, both the leaders felicitated the family members of brave martyrs and also received the ‘Amrit Kalash’ from students.
They unveiled the ‘Saheed Memorial’ plaque and also planted saplings as a mark of respect to freedom fighters and martyrs as part of the programme.
The Ministers paid floral tributes to legendary writer Fakir Mohan Senapati and Odia poet Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja.
Both the Ministers also addressed the students as part of the event on the university campus and called upon them to play a key role in ensuring speedy and balanced development of the state and the country as a whole.
While Anurag was seen donning a white kurta and a pink jacket with a golden shawl, Dharmendra wore a white kurta with red and cream shawl.
Fakir Mohan Senapati, also known as Byasa Kabi, is regarded as the father of modern Odia literature and Odia nationalism. Similarly, Upendra Bhanja was an Odia poet and composer of classical Odissi music.
