Some time back there were reports of skin rashes being the symptoms of COVID-19 besides fever, cough and shortness of breath. A recent study suggests that one should look out for mouth rashes too.
According to a study published in the journal JAMA Dermatology, coronavirus patients also get enanthems (mouth rashes) along with skin rashes. In fact, the presence of enanthems along with skin rashes may actually confirm that the rashes are due to COVID-19, said a report in Firstpost.
The study said that so far, it has been quite difficult to assess the exact reason for the rash. Oral cavity is rarely checked in coronavirus patients, so enanthems or mouth reaches usually go unnoticed.
The report further said that for the study, researchers examined the oral cavity of 21 confirmed COVID-19 patients at a tertiary care hospital. They were taking dermatological treatment from March 30 to April 8, 2020.
The study found that about six patients (29 per cent) showed an enanthem (mouth rash) along with skin rashes. Four of these were women and all of these patients were in the age group of 40-69 years. Besides, all the six patients had the rash on their palate. They developed the rash in 2 to 24 days after the onset of other symptoms of COVID-19, reported Firstpost quoting the study.
