Mumbai: If reports are to be believed, superstar Shah Rukh Khan and ace filmmaker Farah Khan will be teaming up after almost two decades for a sequel of their 2004’s blockbuster film ‘Main Hoon Na.’
Farah is currently working on a script for ‘Main Hoon Na 2’, which will be bankrolled by Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, reported Pinkvilla.
A source close to the project divulged, “Farah has come up with an idea for the sequel, and Shah Rukh loves the direction she’s planning to take. The screenplay is currently in progress, with collaboration between Farah’s writing team and in-house writers at Red Chillies.”
However, Shah Rukh is apprehensive about doing the sequel and has asked for a script which is better than the original.
“Shah Rukh is clear that he doesn’t want to green light a sequel just for the sake of nostalgia. He understands how iconic ‘Main Hoon Na’ is and has asked for a solid script that surpasses the impact of the original,” the source added.
Shah Rukh will be reviewing the first draft of the script by mid-2025 before giving a final nod to the film.
Farah Khan’s ‘Main Hoon Na’ featured Shah Rukh Khan as an army officer, Major Ram Prasad Sharma who joins High School for his undercover mission of protecting a general’s daughter (played by Amrita Rao) from a rogue soldier (played by Suniel Shetty).
Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan and Naseeruddin Shah also played lead roles in the film.
In the past, Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have delivered several hits including ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Om Shanti Om’, and ‘Happy New Year.’
On the work front, Shah Rukh is currently shooting for Siddharth Anand’s ‘King’, which is slated to release in 2026.
